I've been riding hoverboards since we got our first ones in stock back in 2015. The 6.5 inch classic series was the first model I road and it works great indoors and on hard surfaces like pavement. One thing that I did notice was that on rough pavement with cracks or other imperfections that after I road for a while (one mile or more) I noticed that my needs got sore from taking the small jars and impacts that happened when I hit the imperfections in the pavement. Even the seams in a sidewalk would do the same thing.
After riding for a mile or more I needed to get off and take a break.
When we got the first ones of the new ten inch off road hoverboards in July of 2016 I was eager to try one out. The first day we got it I took it camping with me. I tried it on the dirt trails in the campground and was amazed! It handled them like a pro. The air-filled tires took the jars and impacts of twigs, branches and rocks on the trails.
So then I decided to try it out on the gravel road out to the boat launch. I had ridden the 6 inch hoverboard on gravel before but it is a slow and painful process with frequent "kick outs" of the hoverboard. I headed out on to the gravel road with the new 10 inch model and was astounded. It handled the gravel with a smooth ride and was easy to use.
The boat launch was about a kilometer away so I headed out. I was amazed at how smooth and easy to ride it was on the gravel. The air filled tires glided over the rocks with no problem. And the top speed was faster than the 6 inch hoverboards. But I didn't try it out to see how fast I could get going on the gravel. lol
When we first got our hoverboard karts in later that year I was eager to strap a kart onto the 10 inch off road hoverboard after we tried it on a 6 inch classic scooter. The problem we found with it on the 6 inch scooter when riding it on the lawn was that it seemed to be lacking of power because the grass was soft and we would sink in.
Once I strapped the hoverboard kart onto the 10 inch off road hoverboard and set out across the grass it was a whole new experience. I could accelerate just like I was on a hard surface. The power and response was amazing. I could go over large tree branches and anything else in my way. The only real problem I found was that the 3 inch front wheel was a little small but since then all the karts have been upgraded and feature a larger front wheel so that's no longer an issue with hoverboard kart wheel size.
The biggest downfall to strapping a hoverboard cart onto a ten inch offroad hoverboard is that you can go through the battery charge pretty fast. From fully charged to low in under an hour if you are driving aggressively. I mentioned it to a friend and they asked me "What kind of mileage do you think your car would get if you drove it like you're driving that hoverboard and kart" Point well taken, if you drive like your in a NASCAR race your mileage is bound to suffer.
In the summer of 2017 we got our first Hummer hoverboard in and I was sure I was going to like it more than the off road hoverboard I have grown to love. I took it out camping with me and the first time I tried it on a dirt road I was disappointed. It handled great on the grass but the rocks caused the tires to bounce and hop over them. Because the ten inch off road hoverboard uses air filled tires instead of the solid rubber tires that are on the Hummer hoverboard the off road model easily out-performed it on any place that there were rocks in the way.
I still have my 10 inch off road hoverboard and love using it. I take it with me when we go camping and it's great to use on pavement and other hard surfaces too. It's much easier on my knees than any of the other models and constantly performs great when I strap my cart onto it. My nieces love it too, I brought it with camping one time that we were with them and they fell in love with it. So much so that their mom had to buy them one for Christmas. They live on a farm and use it for getting around. Shay has even been seen using it when carrying straw bales across the yard to bed down the calves.
So if you live in the country, go camping, or have other times when a true off road hoverboard is what would suit you best then I would definitely recommend the ten inch off road hoverboard.
You won't regret the decision.
